KEDAH scored a huge 54-15 victory over Putra Jaya in an Agong Cup Group C rugby match at the Sultan Abdul Halim stadium in Alor Setar.
The hosts, who led by 28-3 at the interval, scored seven goals (49 points) and an unconverted try (5 points) while the visitors managed a goal, a try and a penalty for the 15 points.
This is Kedah’s second successive victory having trounced Perak by 62-0 in an away match on Oct 6.
Kedah went on a rampage as early as the seventh minute.
Two tries by Fijian forward Vatimio Rabebe in the seventh and 22nd minutes, which were both converted by another Fijian import Jope Kaiqumi for Kedah to lead by 14-0, set the tone.
Putra Jaya’s Amirul Aqil Kamsol scored a penalty in the 25th minute to make it 14-3 but Kedah responded with two quick tries by Shahrulnizam Abu Seman (31st) and K. Diseswaran (35th) which were again converted by Jope to put Kedah in the driver’s seat at 28-3 at the interval.
Immediately on resumption Kedah went further ahead when Diseswaran touched down for his second try of the match in the 41st minute and Jope added the extra points to make it 35-3 for Kedah.
Putra Jaya fought back to reduce the deficit in the 48th minute with a try by wing forward Rizuan Che Mat, which was converted by Amirul Aqil, to make the score 35-10.
Inspired by the success, Putra Jaya came charging for more and they were rewarded with another try on the hour mark with Abdullah Puteh touching down near the corner flag.
